Widespread drought. . . Marijuana?

Marijuana is a very water intensive plant.
Whilst the industry is new and exciting. Water management must he considered. In a rush to develop this beuorgening industry and given an ever increasing population.
Water conservation strategies are needed.
1) limits on marijuana growth appear to be necessary to conserve water.
2. No lawn watering.
3) desalination will be helpful.
4) water rationing
5) mitigation strategies\rainwater conservation.
6) water conservation.
7) additional limits on marijuana grow licenses.
8) limits to hydroponic grow ops?
I'm not sure pot is the biggest problem. According to google, it takes about five gallons of water to grow a walnut - just one walnut. it takes about one gallon of water to grow a single almond.

It takes around 1,800–1,910 gallons of water to produce one pound of beef. This includes the water needed to grow the grass, hay, and grain that cattle eat, as well as the water used in processing and packaging.

Water required to produce one pound (1 lb.):
Pork = 720 gallons of water
Chicken = 520 gallons of water
Soybeans = 256 gallons of water
Wheat = 220 gallons of water
Corn = 148 gallons of water
@ElwoodBlues all this is true, we don't realize how much water is required for everything until we see it in print like this. Yet I'm seeing the marijuana example over and over. It feels like pot has been singled out by a hater.
What's more interesting is a widespread drought that's suddenly making people anxious about water.

@ElwoodBlues ok thats definitely helpful information. Thanks for the perspective. My point is when we now add marijuana to the equation and water resources are a bit over extended already maybe as we add more water requirements we need improved water management; too\even more.
