Apparent not:
"Is it legal to skinny dip in your backyard? While your property might be private, the law doesn't consider this. It becomes an illegal act if you can be seen by others outdoors while naked. This rule is valid even if there's only a minimal chance others can see you swimming outdoors."

Probably not in half the country. The lawmakers of the Land of the Free seem to delight in banning things that no other country would!

My parents had an above ground pool in their private half acre lot, no neighbors could see , except the cows in the neighboring pasture and if they had binoculars at that! I know they skinny dipped after us kids had gone to bed.

As others have said it depends on the jurisdiction.
For example, where I live in Illinois (which is a fairly liberal state) they call it public indecency. The law says anyone 17 or older can be charged with public indecency by engaging in the following in a public place:
- engaging in an act of sexual conduct;
- or a lewd exposure of the body done with the intent to arouse or to satisfy the sexual desire of the person.
By this wording mere nudity should be legal as long as your not doing anything sexual.
The definition of Public place is fairly broad. "any place where the conduct may reasonably be expected to be viewed by others." it seems like your own home shouldn't be classified as a public place. However, with this definition the focus is whether third parties could reasonably be expected to see your exposure, which could apply even in less-public places such as your home or yard.
So it seems in Illinois that non-sexual skinny dipping on your own property *should* be okay, and within the law. However they can always charge you with disturbing the peace or other silliness if your neighbors report you.
Disclaimer, Do not take this post as the law. I'm not a lawyer, just someone that researched it.

It depends on the jurisdiction.....in some places it would be illegal, but in others it would be perfectly legal.

Well- if people are looking or peering, could they be regarded as peeping toms and be charged?

Probably varies from state to state (and even county to county)

There seems to be a difference of opinion here. Perhaps you need to check with your local law enforcement. I was under the impression that your home is your domain, and you can be naked.

@Musicman like... with any other crime it's legal if no one catches you?
