@gandalf1957 Yes, very true. It took a few bad ones to ruin it for everyone. I assume it is still used in homes sometimes, but even that is hard to say.

@MandyMitchell I totally agree. Which interpretation did you intend? Wherever on your bottom or legs on wherever indoors or outdoors?

@demone75008 Gosh, what country was this in? Surely not France as banned by then.

@Disciplinarian It was in France, it was already illegal by then but I was in a private school who continued to use corporal punishment with the agreement of the parents

@naughtyschoolboy That must have been just as painful. I can imagine that the rest of the group were very well behaved after that.

@oneofnine We were always getting whacked anyway! This was at my boy's school in London. The cane was almost on the curriculum!! Usually it was just a token few swishes! Often we walked a fine line... provoking certain teachers to lose their rag. The cane was seen as a red badge of courage at times!
