I Was Spanked As A Child With A Hair Brush

@karinaal: This was quite similar in my family: If mom announced that a spanking was due, there was normally no way to avoid it. That was particularly awkward if we were at someone else's home and had to wait till we returned home. But mom never forgot what she had said, even if there were hours between judgment and execution! And neither good behavior nor tears and pleas could avert the punishment. When we returned home, it was "Go to your room and wait for me!" Then we knew that bottom and hairbrush would soon make close contact.

Awe the hairbrush. It can take care of both ends lol.

@Meli: the wooden spoon from the kitchen has also been used on my behind, but less frequently than the hairbrush. So many things mom has right at hand...

GoneRogue, it is very different from how my mother handled it and we (my sister and I) rarely misbehaved seriously in front of her. When we occasionally were getting a little out of hand she usually was able to make us behave just by giving us that special maternal look that told all about what would happen if we did not instantly calm down. And one thing we knew was that if first decided and announced that a spanking was deserved then it as sure as fate also would be given; the punishment that was deserved was also given retroactively behaving as a an angel was not an option.

Germanmom, my sister and I had a similar special relationship with our mother's wooden hairbrush. I agree with you that the hairbrush is a very feminine and typically maternal implement which also is one of the reasons I always felt that getting spanked by mum and with the hairbrush had a bonding effect and was part of the special female realm from which our brother and father were excluded.

might have to do with men rarely brushing their hair... brushes and various kitchen utensils are a lot more of female domain

From I was 7 mom used the hairbrush on me and my sister. Before 7 it was just the hand. The haairbrush is a very motherly spanking implement.

You are right it was my Mums main tool apart from the hand. She also took off her slipper and walloped me with that whilst over her lap but the hairbrush was the norm. Sitting was not possible after for some time until the numbness faded on my bottom and then the real pain set in.

Well badseed I'm glad he didn't get it that day! But the hairbrush is popular with families.

When my mom couldn't reason with me and get the message to behave through my thick head, she and her hairbrush always sent the message to my opposite end.

When I was growing up, a family moved into our neighborhood who had a boy my younger sister's age, and a younger girl.

I know the boy's father spanked him with a hairbrush because once when I was over at their house, his father was displeased with his behavior and said "I'm going to get the hairbrush" and started walking up stairs.

His little son ran after him yelling No! No! No!. He didn't actually spank the boy that day, but it was obvious from his son's reaction that he had felt the hairbrush from his father on other occasions.

It definitely is a mum's weapon of choice lol

Like Meli my stepmother was more likely to spank me with a wooden spoon or rubber/plastic spatula, but the hairbrush was an option - especially if I was spanked somewhere other than the kitchen.

When I was growing up, there was at one family I knew whose father spanked with a hairbrush. I never saw it happen. But when the boy was having a dispute with his dad, his father at one point started walking up the stairs saying out loud that he was going to find the hairbrush. The boy ran after him saying "no! no!" He wasn't spanked that time, but it was obvious that his father had spanked him with a hairbrush on prior occasions.

Another boy I knew when I was growing up loved to tell the story about how his father once "broke his hand" while spanking him. He said that after that his father always used a hairbrush.

Interesting that in my Dad's childhood, all the boys, and there were only boys, felt the hairbrush from my Granddad. I wonder why. Any hypotheses?

My Granddad had a drugstore so perhaps he sold spanking hairbrushes at his drugstore. Maybe he even advised moms which one he used!

I never thought about this before but I suspect that the topic would have come up with customers way back then! SW is really helpful when it comes to understanding your past, especially if you and your spankings are still at odds.

My cousin had a whip, that hung behind the kitchen door, to discipline her son. It was very effective. And she hardly had to use it… She would just tell him to go get it for her and he would start behaving.

Oh my dad prefer other implements as mom but he did use the woodenspoon and the spatula on me. But as i remeber never the hairbrush but he did brush his hair *laugh*

Yes, I think you are right. Moms tend to use a hairbrush much more than Dads do

I would have to agree that the hairbrush is typically used by females .. .. I have know this to be true for many females I have known .. .. ..

As a male I did use a hairbrush on spacific occations .. .. that was for using foul language or lying .. .. this resulted in a trip tonthe bathroom where a bar of soap was placed in the mouth and a hairbrush used on the bottom .. .. ..

The hairbrush was not the first "weapon of choice" when she had to spank one of us that was a spatula. But she use that brush enough that it is significant for me to.
But the spatula was our "Popoklopfer"

How do you feel about those spankings now Germanmom? I feel now that it might have been good for me if I had occasionally felt my mom's hairbrush. But of course I might feel differently if I really had done.
