Societies have different tradition regarding the corporal punishments. CPs could be inflicted on bottom, on the palms of the hands, on the soles of the feet, on legs, on the upper backside, etc. In my country, the most used implement are the belt, the switch or the stick, while in some countries judicial CPs are administered with the cane or the whip. The Christianisme encourage CPs while other religions do not. Please, comment.

Codrin, in your survey, no mention "others"
In that cathegory, I find the position important.
I have always made my children bend over - lately even touching toes - in order for the bottom to be presented as well as possible for the spanking, making it possible to give the most effective impact on the bottom.
You also mention parts of the body to punish.
I am sure most of use punish the bottom most, maybe followed by the thighs.
I don´t know any parents, who punish their children´s footsoles (thank God!) I have heard of a few who punishe the palms of the hands and some who punish the back.
Actually, I use the latter for my daughters, it is necessary to punish them while they have their period.

The martinet is not used here, and to the best of my knowledge it is inflicted on the backside, thighs or claves. Is it effective on clothes or only on the bare? How many leather tongues has it?

@Codrin Correct, it is only effective on bare skin. Ours has 10 tongues.

@Zsuzsanna1 Falaka, a very painful punishment, is mostly used in the Middle East. It is used in school and at home. Germany used it during the war and probably elicited many a confession!
