That's just plain wrong

@ralucamatache: It's pure prejudice. Obviously a robust girl can take more than a frail boy but the sexists refuse to accept that.

@Sharon: the Mythbusters tested it. Actually girls have a higher pain tolerance. Oc course that is statistically true only, so individual cases might be different but that's simply no good basis for treating boys and girls differently. Someone wrote here that he uses belt on boys but never on girls. I think that's just extremely unfair for both sides!!! And there's no real reason why someone would do that!

@ralucamatache: There is no legitimate reason for treating boys and girls differently but there often is a real prurient reason.

Instead of asking why they exempt girls, we should ask why they don't exempt boys too. As they must have developed methods of dealing with disobedient girls, methods that they have so much confidence in they know they will never need to use CP, why don't they use those same methods with boys? The only logical answer is that they get some perverted pleasure from beating boys.

@Sharon: I rarely met this situation though undoubtably there are many who do that. In my experience, many parents use CP with both boys and girls, but they spank the boys much harder, just because they have a completely false preconception that "boys can take more than girls". I think that this approach can have very serious consequences. Usually children don't react well to being treated unfairly

@ralucamatache: It happened in a significant number of English schools, girls were totally exempt from CP. You're right about children reacting badly to being treated unfairly, those schools had more behaviour problems that schools that didn't use CP at all. Girls would often try to get boys caned, safe in the knowledge that they were exempt. Girls would also flagrantly commit serious offences such as smoking and vandalism in order to flaunt their immunity.

I can understand how parents might gain a false impression that boys are tougher and, therefore, can be spanked harder. However, there can be no excuse for those teachers, despite having other methods that they used with girls, chose to beat boys.

You're perfectly right about that. I have no such experiences, since here in Romania CP is illegal in schools, it was illegal long before I was born so I can't talk about that

Interesting. My parents don't really spank my brother as much as they spank me and my sisters.

I think they think boys are more mature at that age and spankin doesn't effect them as much.

Girls are just as able to take the pain of a spanking. In fact I genuinely believe they are better able to deal with pain than boys in many cases.

@harveyrider Of course they are. A lot of girls have proven that beyond all doubt. Only misogynists think women are inferior.

@Sharon I don’t think being able to take pain is a matter of which sex is inferior or superior. But there are obvious physiological differences which I believe better prepare a girl to take pain

@harveyrider Misogynists sometimes claim women can't endure pain so are inferior to men. It's just one of lies they use. It really comes down to the individual but, in general, I think women have better coping mechanisms.

@harveyrider I would like to confirm this. Saying that girls are less able to endure a spanking is a disgrace.

@helenS When I was at school I saw boys in tears after a couple of mild whacks with a slipper and girls taking a severe caning with hardly a murmur. A person's sex isn't a reliable indicator of how they will react to pain.

@Sharon I would think that girls are much more able to suffer and endure pain because our bodies are more adapted to it. We are the ones who give birth, that’s why.
