This is a legitimate concern for men dealing with prostate cancer.

I have several friends whose husbands are dealing or have dealt with this.

I only know of one personally who had his removed and he couldn't deal with the aftereffects. His personality changed, he questioned his masculinity and said he didn't feel like a man anymore. He drove everyone away. My friend and he ended up divorcing, his decision, and he pushed his 2 daughters away as well.

I imagine everyone is different depending on how secure you are with yourself.
I have known women who had a hysterectomy and later said they didn't feel like a woman anymore.

One woman I met years ago at work went through this. I became friendly with her husband and three children along the way too. One night she tried to commit suicide by pill overdose because of her surgery. She was found in time and spent a while in a mental facility. This was about 20 years ago and she is still alive.

Point being...a persons internal feelings about themselves when dealing with cancer and these types of surgeries have a huge psychological impact and everyone is obviously different so it isn't fair for people to judge others about their fears.

My husband had several biopsies on his prostate and some came back inconclusive so he had an MRI done last week. We find out the results this week so this question popping up on here today hit a little close to home since we have been discussing the possible futures if his results show cancer.
