At any given moment, and using a world population of 7.75B, there could be up to 750,000 people engaged in sexual activity.

Normalize for actual penetration, as opposed to other sexual activities, then the number is reduced to 75,000.

10% of that is homosexual sex, that's 7,500 people

Half of that is female, that takes us down to 3,750 people

Divide that by four, to eliminate other types of gay sex, and you end up with about 900 men having annal sex right now.

But wait, we can't normalize this across the population, because in more than 75% of the world, gay sex, even when desired, is very difficult to come by, so that number could be as low 100 men having anal sex as we speak. All this assuming a 3-4 minute session.

@Northwest What are those steps based on? One in 10,333 people engaging in sexual activity at any time seems rather arbitrary. 90% of that being non-penetrative seems a bit high. The ratio for homosexual and gender seems plausible, but why divide by 4 for "other types of gay sex" after you eliminated non-penetrative and lesbian sex already? This sounds made up. 🤭

@UpForItNow I don't quibble with the concept of the reply, just some of his multipliers.

7.75 billion people
Assume 30% are not sexually active. Too young, too old, by choice, can't find partner, w/e.
5.43 sexually active people.
Half are men
2.71 sexually active men.
10% are gay.
271 million sexually active gay men
Takes two to tango, so...
136 million gay pairs of men who are sexually active
Assume sexually active men have sex for 20 minutes once a week.
10080 minutes each week, 504 twenty minutes windows each week.
136 million pairs spread over 504 windows.

That leaves us with just over a quarter million people having gay sex at any given time.

All I did was change the assumptions a bit and came to a number many times more.

Math is fun.

As in, you can't extrapolate from a general "people have sex", to "people have gay sex", because for the overwhelming majority of the planet's population, gay sex is neither "normal" nor "available", hence the totally random factor I introduced.

@Northwest There could be some compensating figure for more liberated areas, eg I read that 1/4 of gay men in San Francisco have had more than 1000 separate sex partners.

@UpForItNow San Francisco is not going to skew stats from 95% of the Middle East, India, Pakistan, Near East, the bulk of the Far East, Russia, Japan, China, etc.
