Water levels on the man-made reservoir exceeded 440 feet on February 4th, evening, automatically triggering the Lake Berryessa’s famed “Glory Hole” spillway, there to keep the lake from flooding.

This is the 25th time it happened over the past 70 years.

This one is going to be for the records books. Another atmospheric is going to hit tomorrow, which means this will be going for a few more weeks.

Last time was 2019, before that in 2017 and before that 2005.

Only two other similarly passive spillways exist in California, one in Trinity Lake in Trinity County and one at Whiskeytown Lake in Shasta County, which also spilled over last week.

Never been there during an active spill.
