@chikki I don't think there was much difference in thickness between school knickers and boys' underpants. There are several factors affecting how much a slippering stung. As the gym mistress was the only teacher to slipper us both through knickers and bare, that's the only valid comparison I can make. She slippered harder than any other teacher, which could also be a factor. It stung so much through knickers that it couldn't really sting much more without.

On a related matter, in sixth I found trousers didn't make any difference to the sting of the cane. All through school we had to lift our skirts for the cane but in sixth form we were allowed to wear trousers. I thought they'd offer a bit more protection from the cane or slipper but I soon found they didn't.

@Sharon one of the reasons when i was at school, and again when deputy, that boys had to take their trousers down was the material was very thick, a tweed. THESE were not the thin type boys wear today and would have greatly reduced the sting felt by the boy. Also, in the 50's not all boys wore pants so when trouser5s or shorts had to be lowered so the bottom could be caned it was often already bare....to be fair this resulted in any boys wearing pants having to pull them down and present a baee bottom to be whacked

@chikki That level of thickness would make a difference. Our clothes were much thinner.
