@jackrabbit10 Then it should work for a butt splitter.
@LordShadowfire looks like over 100 years older older, sure bust open some butt,,

@jackrabbit10 @LordShadowfire I found it buried in my yard. Would love to pound it home on someone 😏
@TrashCat I could be wrong about what it is but it is old,,
TrashCat · M
@jackrabbit10 I believe you're correct. A log or firewood splitter
@TrashCat may find it on the net if you google the photo,

@jackrabbit10 A wedge... It's interesting how the head rolled from being beat. The ones I've used tend to start flaking off after being beat that much but from the pic that doesn't seem to be the case with that one.
@robb65 years ago the iron was more pure, and harder could be the reason,

@jackrabbit10 That's kinda what I'm thinking. Even the ones I was using 40 years ago tended to flake off and needed to be ground and reshaped before that happened. I'm not sure how old those actually were, but I would suspect the one in the pic is older.
@robb65 you may find the wedges on the net ,or a antique shop,

@jackrabbit10 There's two on the back of my truck now, possibly a third on the shelf over my shop door, and at least one if not two more at my parents house that I probably need to round up and bring home. The new ones have got pricey though and if I ever run across some in decent shape for cheap I'll probably grab them.
@robb65 good collection,

@jackrabbit10 When I was young my dad had a nine pound hammer. He loaned it to a relative who lost it and replaced it with a ten. I've been watching for another nine pounder for the last 30 yeas but those don't seem to exist around here. Eights, tens, and sometimes twelves I can find. I've got a collection of axe heads I've either bought or found over the years. One's a five pound axe that my dad bought new in the early 80's, it turned back up a few years ago. I've got a second five pound axe I picked up for five bucks at an estate sale, barely used but with a broke handle. That one I'm currently using.
