Why do Americans add a meaningless "ass" onto words?
Like "badass", for example? What does it have to do with their bottoms?

An ass is known to be a dumb animal. Even in the Arab world we use it as an insult but we don't have a word for ass the animal so we use the word for donkey. We have a separate word for ass the bottom.
