Why do Americans add a meaningless "ass" onto words?

Like "badass", for example? What does it have to do with their bottoms?

@BijouPleasurette You've never heard the term "slang"? What does "bugger all" mean? You don't like insects? How about "gagging". It means something else here. And the famous "fag". Explain that one. And of course "innit". I think I got this one.

@carpediem "Innit" is just a lazy way of saying "Isn't it". "Bugger all" has bugger all to do with insects. Lol :)
