Oh no, real conservatives aren't fans of destruction

When staying with friends in California I asked if we could visit the Nixon and Reagan libraries. This is how much I am of a rightwinger in politics. My friends obliged me very kindly with the one library. They're your typical Californian liberals but we've always been friends nevertheless.

Now, as a non-American, my heart bleeds. Not only because of the vile posting by President Trump on Rob and Michele Reiner's death, but also because all the traditions and history that's being destroyed by this current incumbent of the White House.

What next? Turning the West Wing into Trump Plaza? No, Mister President, Ronald Reagan wasn't a fan and would never have been a fan of yours. Notice the grin, that's for sure not a smile. Anyhow, one year gone and this presidency is already becoming a lame duck one!

I know a lot of American conservatives hold Ronald Reagan up as a near demigod but as someone who was alive during Reagan's terms and as one who was very politically observant I always questioned that reverence. What exactly did Reagan do? I can say the Nixon opened trade with China whether that is good or not is still up for debate but what did Reagan do that lasted beyond his term? Free trade with Canada? Invade Grenada?

@hippyjoe1955 Wasn't there something about some wall fell down, and an evil empire collapsed? Or was that some old video game?

@sunsporter1649 If you think that was on Reagan I have some ocean front property in Northern Saskatchewan for sale. The Soviet Union was broke. The US could have had Jimmie Carter in office and it still would have happened. The next question is since the fall of the USSR what happened to the US? It isn't really pretty.

@hippyjoe1955 Must have been a video game that I recall playing, something called Gorby and the Fall, or was it a video game on how to rewrite history?

@sunsporter1649 The fall of the USSR is a many faceted event. Reagan played a minor role. Gorbachev. Pope John Paul II Thatcher in Britain and of course the rot within the USSR itself.
