Oh no, real conservatives aren't fans of destruction

When staying with friends in California I asked if we could visit the Nixon and Reagan libraries. This is how much I am of a rightwinger in politics. My friends obliged me very kindly with the one library. They're your typical Californian liberals but we've always been friends nevertheless.

Now, as a non-American, my heart bleeds. Not only because of the vile posting by President Trump on Rob and Michele Reiner's death, but also because all the traditions and history that's being destroyed by this current incumbent of the White House.

What next? Turning the West Wing into Trump Plaza? No, Mister President, Ronald Reagan wasn't a fan and would never have been a fan of yours. Notice the grin, that's for sure not a smile. Anyhow, one year gone and this presidency is already becoming a lame duck one!

I know that’s true, but since the conservatives hitched their wagon to Trump’s “star”, it doesn’t matter.

He is cruel, selfish, has no respect for anyone, he’s destructive and he’s dangerous. By extension, so are his supporters. We don’t see you, we see Trump, and if conservatives hope to maintain a political presence, the only way to do that is to separate from him entirely.

It may be starting to happen, but that also means he will escalate, because that’s the only motion he understands. The longer conservatives linger around Trump, the less chance of survival they have as an influence and the less we see them as even potential leaders.

Three more years of Trump, assuming our nation survives at all, will result in decades of utter contempt for those who backed him up.

@Mamapolo2016 Exactly. Genuine conservatives have a duty to step back from the current culture wars, assess what really matters, and push back against Trump's systematic attack on institutions and social.values.
