The withdrawal from Afghanistan by American and coalition troops was originally ordered by and started by President Trump. As part of the United States–Taliban deal, the Trump administration agreed to an initial reduction of US forces from 13,000 to 8,600 troops by July 2020, followed by a complete withdrawal by 1 May 2021, if the Taliban kept its commitments. At the start of the Biden administration, there were 2,500 US soldiers remaining in Afghanistan and, in April 2021, Biden said the US would not begin withdrawing these soldiers before 1 May, but would complete the withdrawal symbolically by 11 September.
The reason so many weapons were left behind is because the Taliban with other militias groups increased their attacks and regularity of attacks after 1 May, 2021. It was decided that for the safety of personnel and civilians to leave those assets behind and get as many service members, civilian aids/workers out of the country as quickly as safely possible while destroying any equipment that was considered top secret or that could be compromising to American/coalition troops and interests within the region

@WastedTime ....@Heartlander.... and even by leaving the weapons behind and taking people instead.... the government was criticized for leaving other people behind. There's only so much can be done in a specific timeframe. Who was it who dictated that timeframe?
@JollyRoger that time frame was dictated the the terms of the United States–Taliban deal, under the Trump presidency. President Biden delayed the withdrawal by 4 months to get more people and resources out of the country which angered the Taliban and their militias allies
Because they are incompetent
@SpoiledbratAshley that’s not factual in any way, but nothing more than a partisan view and statement without knowing all the details.

@WastedTime There were condition with the Trump withdrawal plan, Step one had to be completed, then step 2, etc. The withdrawal was not to move forward until the steps were completed. Biden ignored the conditions and departed unconditionally, resulting in countless deaths, a betrayal of our allies.
It was NOT ordered by Trump. It was ordered by Biden. Trump negotiated a plan, period. If you think Trump ordered the withdrawal why were US allies caught unprepared? They woke one morning and the US was leaving.
