I Have Not Forgotten 911 [September 11 Attacks - 9/11]

I have certainly not forgotten 911, I feel sure that nobody has. I know where I was and what I was doing that day as I watched it unfold on the television. I'm all for remembering in honor of those that lost their lives and those who gave their lives bravely to help in the rescue efforts, remembering the affect it had on our nation as a whole, and remembering those who lost loved ones...and that's where my problem with it comes in. That was 17 years ago, and at risk of sounding cold and heartless (which I am not), must we continue to rehash the event every year over and over again? The television is filled with networks showing that horrible film footage practically all day long and playing and replaying interviews of witnesses and survivors....I mean really? I fully understand that this day has reached almost a memorial holiday status and that people think it's the right thing to do for the right reasons. I get that...but what about the surviving victims and the families of those who lost someone? Has it ever occurred to anyone that they might just wish to forget? No, not forget what happened to them or the people they lost necessarily, but the tragic events that caused the pain and losses. I've often thought of this because I went through a tragedy and ended up having to relive it in my mind over and over for several years afterward through repeatedly telling the story again and again in court depositions, No it's not exactly the same thing in itself, but the toll it took on my mind and heart was very painful. I can only imagine what it must be like for those survivors and families to see it and hear about it yet again every year....

Can't we just let it go? I'm not saying to pretend it never happened, but I am saying why not let it rest because whether we are aware of it or not, we are being very insensitive to those people who literally endured it. All in the name of 'remembrance' and 'patriotism'.

Agreed. I understand that the families that were directly impacted will always commemorate the anniversary as they should. However, I agree that reliving it moment-by-moment with the “as it happened” replays that have been shown every year and the way so many others seem to just wallow in it has run its course. It was practically a generation ago. I doubt that people were wallowing like that in regards to Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1958.

I agree with this

I'd hate to have a loved ones death shown on tv over and over again

The press don't want people to forget. They thrive on the divide.

@Zonuss That's what I'm saying...we won't forget. We don't need to be reminded over and over again.

@indyjoe Of course we do. Its important that this is bought to our attention yearly.

@Zonuss This is sarcasm right?
