@4meAndyou It would definitely buy some votes. Poor people hoping to hit the lottery. But it will cost votes too, and given the demographics, it might cost more votes than it would buy. I could be wrong. However, in ultra liberal Washington state, we have no state income tax. Liberals are always clamouring for more taxes...as long as they don't have to pay them. And I've seen the state income tax referendum on the ballot a few times and it gets killed. By a lot! Liberals like keeping their money too.

If you dig into this deeper, you begin asking yourself how it would work? Obama has a Kenyan father and white mother. Does he have to pay reparations and also receive them? Or does he get a pass for being half white. Truth is, almost all African Americans have some Caucasian DNA. Quite a bit in fact. Then you have very little ancestral documentation. How does someone prove they are the ancestors of slaves? Do they have to prove it at all? What about every other race that has been enslaved at a point in history. If you trace your DNA back far enough, we all originated from Africa.

So...I see a scenario of the money going into a general fund, with zero accountability and the gov't not being able to manage it. It will be subject to all sorts of fraud, i.e. ending up in the pockets of those with connections.

@soar2newhighs We just had the 50th anniversary of the end of the Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment. That went on for 40 years. People look at that and say how awful our gov't was conducting medical experiments on these people...and then roll up their sleeves for an experimental injection, putting on blinders as to what's happening.
