Total D-Day Casualties by Beach
While the allies successfully captured all five beaches, they suffered high casualties. The below table shows the total D-Day casualties broken down by beach, with Omaha Beach suffering the most by far:

Juno Beach Canada 21,400 946
Sword Beach Britain 28,845 426
Gold Beach Britain 25,000 413
Utah Beach USA 21,000 197

Towns right off the beach—like Courseulles-sur-Mer and Bernières-sur-Mer—contained nested machine-gun posts that forced bitter house-to-house fighting. Preliminary Allied naval and aerial bombardments failed to knock out many key German bunkers, leaving the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division exposed to direct fire. Canada suffered 961 casualties on D-Day (340 killed), making Juno the second-deadliest beach of the entire invasion behind Omaha.

I have nothing against Canadian Troops, they fought bravely, but I don't take kindly to
people that lie about American troops to make themselves feel good.

@Midlifemale Was your dad in the Marines?
Midlifemale · 61-69, M
@DogMan no army
DogMan · 61-69, M
@Midlifemale Mine too, He tried to enlist in the Army Air Corp, but they couldn't take him because
he was colorblind. Before he could enlist in the Navy they drafted him into the Infantry.
The picture is dad with a little Italian girl they found in the woods. Her family had been
killed. The guys called her "Boots"

I'm reading up a lot on WW2. Trying to educate myself on all the facts and history..my dad was in that war for 4 years. And my mom waited for him like most spouses did back then

@Midlifemale Was it you that said he fought in North Africa? My dad got there too late, so he
was shipped off to the front lines in Italy near Anzio.

This was from our Canadian friend Hippy Joe. He hates America and our troops. But he does
not know how to look up facts.

@DogMan wrong in all counts Juno was the heaviest defended. The Yankees think they were heroes. They couldn't get across a beach.

@SunshineGirl My opinion is you offered yet another example of condenscension and superiorty.
Stop fighting boys, the superior lesbian is here to tell you what to think and feel.

@SunshineGirl More importantly, I tried (evidently unsuccessfully) to stop an extraordinary period of cooperation between nations being viewed through the lens of our own current politics.
Yes, this is what Hippy Joe was trying to do. For no reason other than politics, he felt he had to take a shot at our military by lying about historical events.
