You can indeed by investigated and arrested for social media posts if they are suspected of committing offences such as
Making credible threats of violence,
Harassment or stalking,
Inciting violence or racial/religious hatred,
Malicious communications,
And certain public order offences.
This is no longer Starmer’s Britain but she deserves what’s coming to her.
English media personality Katie Hopkins has built a career around inflammatory rhetoric, leading to her being fired from LBC Radio, permanently banned from Twitter in 2020 for violating hate speech policies, and bankrupted by a high-profile libel lawsuit.Her most widely condemned and legally damaging comments span human rights, tragedies, class, and health.
1. Describing Migrants as "Cockroaches"
In April 2015, following a shipwreck in the Mediterranean where over 400 migrants drowned, Hopkins wrote a column for The Sun titled “Rescue boats? I’d use gunships to stop migrants.” In it, she wrote:
"Show me pictures of coffins, show me bodies floating in water... I still don’t care. Make no mistake, these migrants are like cockroaches."
The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights formally condemned the statement, comparing her language to the propaganda used before the Rwandan genocide.
2. Calling for a "Final Solution" After the Manchester Bombing
Following the May 2017 Manchester Arena terrorist bombing, Hopkins tweeted:
"22 dead - number rising. Schofield. Don't part-foal me. We need a final solution. #Manchester"
The phrase "final solution" is the historical term used by the Nazi regime for the Holocaust. The immense public backlash led to her immediate dismissal from her radio hosting role at LBC.
3. Falsely Accusing Jack Monroe (The Defamation Case)
In 2015, Hopkins mistakenly targeted anti-poverty campaigner Jack Monroe on Twitter, falsely accusing Monroe of vandalizing a war memorial. When Hopkins refused to apologize, Monroe sued for libel.The Outcome: Monroe won the case.The Penalty: Hopkins was ordered to pay £24,000 in damages and hundreds of thousands in legal fees, forcing her to sell her family home and file for an Individual Voluntary Arrangement (IVA) to manage bankruptcy.
4. Mocking the Illness and Death of Derek Draper
In January 2024, following the death of Derek Draper (husband of TV presenter Kate Garraway) from long-term COVID-19 complications, Hopkins posted a video laughing and drinking wine while mocking Garraway's grief.
She claimed ITV would hand Garraway a book deal and mockingly added that the death was sponsored by "Fizzzzzzzeeerr" (Pfizer), even though Draper contracted the virus before vaccines existed
.5. Categorizing Children by Their Names
During a 2013 appearance on ITV's This Morning, Hopkins declared that she judges children based on their names and would actively prevent her own children from playing with peers from lower-class backgrounds.
She famously stated:"I think you can tell a lot from a child’s name. For me, a name is a shortcut of finding out what class a child comes from and whether I want my child to play with them. ... I don’t like geographical names. If a child is called 'Brooklyn' or 'London' I think, 'gosh, what kind of parent names their child after a place?'"
Show host Holly Willoughby famously pointed out that Hopkins’ own daughter is named India.
6. Comments on Dementia, Disability, and Illness.
Hopkins has consistently targeted vulnerable groups, frequently framing health conditions as societal burdens:
Dementia Patients: She referred to dementia sufferers in hospital beds as "bed blockers" who consume valuable NHS resources.
Obesity: On The Last Leg, she claimed, "Obesity is not a disability," stating she would never hire an overweight person because "fat people aren't sexy.
"Targeting Children: She publicly bullied a 9-year-old autistic girl on Twitter and mocked a toddler diagnosed with an explicit, severe neurological condition.
