What is going on in Sweden?

I have always thought that Sweden was the bastion of Love and diversity. Heavy gun control, free health care, etc...

How did things go wrong?

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson admitted that his government has lost control over a burgeoning wave of violence sweeping the country, amid escalating public concern.

The acknowledgment came during an emergency meeting where Kristersson announced the acceleration of new legislation targeting juvenile involvement in criminal activities.

The beginning of 2025 has seen bombings carried out at an average of one per day, leading to 27 bombings by January 27 – including several in residential communities, the Nordic Times reported.

“Sweden is in the midst of a new wave of violence; it’s primarily the bombings that are increasing, with almost one occurring every day,” Kristersson told reporters on Thursday.

Read the whole story and its context. The increase in the use of incendiary devices has coincided with a sharp decrease in firearms and drugs offences . . ie. gang activity has been redistributed into other, less violent crimes (the bombs are used by gangs to damage property and extort money, they rarely result in injury).

Sweden is a liberal democracy governed by the rule of law. All are treated equally, irrespective of their immigration or ethnic status. Collecting data on "ethnicity" would serve no useful purpose.

And since when was Sweden in North America? Has Trump gone imperialist again?

@SunshineGirl data is a crime fighters best weapon . Statistics matter . You put cops where crimes occur. Every city does this . How do you stop crime if you don’t know where it’s happening or who’s doing it ? You don’t .

@AthrillatheHunt Then collect your statistics honestly, objectively and dispassionately, and analyse in the same way. You have formed a hypothesis that certain ethnic groups are responsible for the increase in this crime. You want to find statistics to support this hypothesis, conveniently ignoring other factors . . such as the fact that much gang violence in Sweden is attributable to the grooming of young people by far right groups.

@SunshineGirl neither I , nor statistics make assumptions. Statistics are factual data. The question is why would those in charge of fighting crime not want the best crime fighting tool available ? (Factual data ) . You think they are afraid of making Swedes look bad ? Or afraid of making their decision makers look bad?
