As of 2025, the cities with the highest crime rates in the U.S. include Memphis, St. Louis, and Detroit, with violent crime rates significantly above the national average.
Top Cities by Violent Crime Rate

1. Memphis, Tennessee: Memphis has the highest violent crime rate in the U.S., with approximately 24.37 violent crimes per 1,000 residents. The city struggles with issues such as gang violence and economic disadvantage, contributing to its high crime statistics.

2. St. Louis, Missouri:[/b] Following closely, St. Louis reports about 23.45 violent crimes per 1,000 residents. The city faces challenges related to gang conflicts and drug markets, which drive its high rates of violence.

3. Detroit, Michigan: Detroit has a violent crime rate of 22.58 per 1,000 residents. Despite efforts for urban renewal, the city continues to deal with violence stemming from economic decline and insufficient community resources.

4. Baltimore, Maryland: Baltimore remains a significant concern with high rates of violent crime, often linked to systemic issues such as poverty and drug-related activities.

5. Oakland, California: Oakland also ranks among the cities with elevated crime rates, facing challenges similar to those of other major urban areas.

The top 5 have been run by Democrats for decades.

Should I look up the next 5 and see if a Republican stronghold is in there.
@DogMan What major cities have Republican leadership?

Then, there's the pattern I'm more familiar with, a blue city in a red state, at odds over things like gun control, funding, etc.

I've got no issue saying that Democrats have a crime and violence issue, but I don't think it defines them, any more than the Republican Party should be defined by the issues it is plagued with and doesn't address well, like white collar crime and corruption.

@MistyCee Check out the next 12. There is a disturbing pattern.
@DogMan Violence and crime should be disturbing. I'm not surprised, though.

@MistyCee We should all be against, and fight crime. We are far too lenient.

@DogMan I agree. Everyone is against crime and violence. Why do you think otherwise?
