Why are Democrats against school choice?

School choice has exploded across the country over the past few years — no thanks to Democrats, who are doing everything they can to prevent families from determining the best education for their children.

One Democrat in Georgia even left her party over its opposition to a school choice package that would have created $6,500 vouchers for students in poor-performing public school districts. Mesha Mainor, who switched her party affiliation to the GOP this week, was the only Democrat in the state legislature to support the bill. She spent weeks urging her colleagues to reconsider their position, pointing out that the bill would primarily help low-income minority students whose families can’t afford to leave failing public schools. In response, Georgia Democrats vowed to oust Mainor from the legislature, with state Rep. Josh McLaurin offering $1,000 to anyone who agreed to primary her.

Are Democrats trying to keep the poor kids out of THIER schools?

@DogMan Provide some facts to your claim.

@JSul3 If you don't believe me, look it up. You must live in a cave, if you do not know what kids are being taught in school.

If you don't know, you are either naive, or lying.

@DogMan You made the claim.
Prove it.

@JSul3 The National Education Association (NEA) appears to have accepted the conservative framing of CRT: namely, that it's not merely confined to academia but is in fact also being taught in K-12 schools. And the NEA thinks this is a good thing that should be defended

@JSul3 SACRAMENTO (AP) — California has overhauled its sex education guidance for public school teachers, encouraging them to talk about gender identity with kindergartners and giving advice to help LGBT teenagers navigate relationships and practice safe sex.

LGBT advocates praised the new recommendations for giving such attention to a community that often is left out of sex education policies. But some parents and conservative groups assailed the more than 700-page document as an assault on parental rights, arguing those issues should be taught by parents in the home.

They are teaching kids in Kindergarten about gay sex, and gender queers.

WFT is WRONG with DEmocrats?

@DogMan

Critical race theory (CRT) is rarely taught in elementary schools. However, California has adopted many aspects of CRT at all levels of education.
Explanation
Prevalence
There's no definitive resource documenting the prevalence of CRT in schools, but the consensus is that it's not included in curriculum and is rarely taught in K-12 schools.
California
In March 2021, the state Board of Education passed an ethnic studies curriculum based in large part on CRT that applies to all public schools.
Other states
Some states have enacted laws banning CRT in elementary or high schools.
Topics covered
CRT covers topics such as systemic racism, white privilege, microaggressions, implicit bias, and intersectionality.
Benefits
Some say that teaching about race can help children and teens understand systems of oppression.
Some learning strategies that can be used to teach CRT include:
Considering the historical trajectory of people of color and Indigenous people
Reflecting on the trauma of encounters with racism
Embracing racialized identity and intersectional positionality
Engaging in social justice projects
Developing counter-stories to the dominant voices in traditional curriculum.
