Biden Bans drilling in the Gulf

One has to wonder why now? after 4 years in office. My idea is that he is trying to
keep energy prices high, which will keep prices high on everything. He knows Trump
will lower prices on energy by reduced regulations, and more drilling.

Biden does NOT want the people to see how easy it is for a POTUS to lower energy costs.
So by banning drilling in the gulf, he will slow Trump down, while making up reasons that
energy costs will eventually come down under Trump.

Newsom was able to throw another .45 cents per gallon tax on California gas, to keep his
gas prices high. Biden did not have enough time to do that.

Biden did not actually 'ban' oil drilling, he merely cancelled all permits and government regulation which had previously authorized drilling.

The reason Biden did that specifically, was so that Trump could not start drilling for oil in that region since regulations were already in place that would have allowed Trump to start massive drilling operations to occur.

Those oil reserves however, are considered America's 'Emergency Oil Reserves' which don't otherwise get tapped-into for day to day consumer demand.

The reason Biden did this was to slow Trump's ambitions way down when it comes Trump's massive oil drilling expansion, which now means that if Trump wants to drill for oil, the regulatory process must be started all over again which will involve establishing oversight committees and voting in Congress etc, etc, which will take months to complete if not years to bring to fruition, assuming Trump gets the required votes to pass regulatory laws that would enable drilling to actually occur.

By the time that any of that happened, Trump's Term as POTUS will have ended and Trump's ambition to "drill baby, drill" will not ever occur.

@swirlie High energy prices only hurt the poor and disadvantaged. Hopefully Biden's message
will be seen by the people it hurts the most, and they will think twice about voting for Democrats
that DO NOT have their best interests in mind.

Keep in mind that as it stands right now, the USA imports almost ALL of it's crude oil from foreign countries, 75% of which is imported by pipeline from Canada. Those crude oil prices that the USA pays for imported oil is actually cheaper per barrel than it would be if America drilled for it's own oil.

@swirlie Don’t ignore the effects of whip lash energy policies and restrictions. How many years did Obama dangle the Keystone pipeline before yanking the rug? Energy workers are mostly non government workers and they get fired when the govern yanks the rug. Try to put the rug back takes 10 times longer, and finding investors to trust government again is an uphill task, especially after having seen $billions suddenly vanish thanks to political decisions to yank the rug in the first place.

I grew up along the Gulf coast, just a few miles from the shipyards that assembled the massive offshore drilling platforms. Amazed at the infrastructure and history and complexity that made that be. Also just a few miles from the strategic reserves. The economies of 4 states are heavily based on off shore drilling. States that vote Republican’

Who said I was ignoring anything at all, heartlander?

:) simply drawing attention to the massive investment and $billions at risk on what seems like political games, added to the misery inflicted on the millions of workers.

OH, I see! Thanks for unpacking that one for me. I would never have deduced any of that myself from what you'd previously stated. 🙂
