Why do Universities receive taxpayer money?

I know there are exceptions, like Hillsdale college, but why would others take money from
tax payers? Would they not be able to survive on their own with just tuitions? How does
Hillsdale do it?

Is it like NPR and PBS? Their business model is not strong enough to support itself?

I take it you stand opposed to affordable higher education, then?

@CorvusBlackthorne should college/university have pay caps

@MarineBob What does that have to do with my question?

@CorvusBlackthorne Are you saying college is free? All I hear is how expensive college
is. Why IS college so expensive? Maybe they should not force people to take courses
they do not want to take. Why did Biden forgive college debt, if it is already paid for by
tax dollars?

Are you saying college is free?
No. I literally never said it was free. I am against charging impoverished students college tuition, and feel existing tuitions are too high to afford, but it is certainly not free. I do not understand how you could interpret what I said to mean that.
