If people need to go to Canada in future to have abortions, will America no longer be Land of the Free?

RodionRomanovitch · 56-60, M
America just became a tyranny of religious zealots masquerading as arbiters of justice.
RodionRomanovitch · 56-60, M
@hippyjoe1955 I have to admit it Joe , you're a natural comedian.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@RodionRomanovitch And you have nothing to add.
RodionRomanovitch · 56-60, M
@hippyjoe1955 To what ?
REPUBLICANS: Banning guns will not stop gun crimes.

ALSO REPUBLICANS: Banning abortions WILL stop abortions.

REPUBLICANS: Let's shrink government.

ALSO REPUBLICANS: Let's shrink government so it fits inside a woman's vagina.

BTW, the 1973 Roe decision was decided 7-2 and written by a republican appointed Justice. The 1992 Casey decision upholding Roe was written by a Reagan appointee on a court with EIGHT justices appointed by republican presidents.
Roadsterrider · 56-60, M
@ElwoodBlues Banning abortions isn't the answer, we agree on that.
@Roadsterrider Yeah, we agree. But banning abortions is why the republican establishment held their noses and supported Trump.
Roadsterrider · 56-60, M
@ElwoodBlues I don't think that was a major reason except for the evangelicals maybe. Trump addressed several issues that struck a chord with moderates, the border, trade deficits, world strength and respect for the US. Banning anything out right doesn't work, it didn't work with alcohol, it didn't work with drugs, it hasn't worked with prostitution, and it wouldn't work with abortion. From what I have read about the leaked decision paper from the SCOTUS, their opinion is that Wade and Casey decisions be struck down and the issue be pushed back to the states. I think that is the correct answer to the problem, there is no specific power over abortion allocated to the federal government in the constitution, therefore it is up to the states to govern individually, as they have for other issues like firearm ownership and driving privileges. Minnesota can do what they want to do, and Mississippi can do what they want to do.

It’s only ever been the land of the free for the wealthy.

America was never the land of the free to begin with
It's an illusion people tell themselves

They won't have to leave the USA to get abortions. If SCOTUS goes ahead and strikes down the Roe vs Wade decision, it will revert back to the states. Then, if you are a resident of a blue state like New York, California or Illinois (for example), the educated, sober predictions indicate that you will have the same or more access to abortion. For states like Texas, Florida or Georgia, I suspect that the bare minimum of access (rape, incest, danger to the life of the mother) will remain? There will of course be states that swing more or less to one side or the other on this of course.
Yetti · 51-55, M
@Human1000 - they may be moving towards this but until SCOTUS (first) makes their final ruling (at least 6 months to a year away), and the states make their say known (a year or three down the road from that), and the final word via their state Supreme Court's decision on that in turn happens (a year or two from that even), I would say that rising food & gas prices, the perverse WOKE ideology and reduced personal liberties are a MUCH bigger concern for every American.
Human1000 · M
@Yetti I think the states will ban it a bit faster and many have trigger laws...
Yetti · 51-55, M
@Human1000 genuinely sharp of you to notice the trigger laws in some states, however some states on both sides are doing this not as a direct response necessarily to the moves from SCOTUS insomuch as due to the very long, entrenched war going on for many decades over abortion. Both sides have long since had contingency plans, at least many have, in this case. The states can move forward with trigger laws but they cannot act fully on them until SCOTUS has their final say.
For all you believers that abortions are ok and should be performed.
#1 You are killing a human person.
#2 Your mother should have one and you would not be here to protest
Just think of all the money they would have saved if they flushed you down the toilet.
The USA has more laws about killing dogs then killing babies

I don’t want to hear all your bull shit. Just block if you want to kill a baby.
Now that I pissed all of you off . Good Bye. Bi the way I did note for Trump. Please Block me.🖕@Ynotisay
Ynotisay · M
@lovebeingasissy I don't have enough blocks left. I control my space and know what I don't want in my little SW world. And there's too many of you here. So do me a solid and block me, ok? Thanks.
Human1000 · M
@lovebeingasissy What an odd person.
Carla · 61-69, F
There will be states that will allow abortions. But it will only be available for those able to afford to go to those places.
You know, like the old days.
Maga!
hunkalove · 61-69, M
When I was in college 50 years ago the only places you could get abortions were in NYC and here in Colorado. We recently passed laws protecting that right.
gol979 · 41-45, M
Nor will canada be the land of the free. Cant leave or enter without undergoing a medical procedure/multiple injections
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
They won't be allowed in without having a vax. Canada at present is not a shining beacon of freedom. One of its 'retired' generals was captured by Russians in Ukraine. He was running a bioweapons lab according to reports. He resigned because he was sexually abusing his subordinates.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@RodionRomanovitch You don't know about this? Seriously?
RodionRomanovitch · 56-60, M
@hippyjoe1955 Seriously no , it hasn't crossed my radar. Where did you find out about it ?
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@RodionRomanovitch Its been on the news if you don't rely on the MSM you will find it.
Budwick · 70-79, M
I think it's likely that some states will retain abortion.

If you want to combine a vacation in Canada with the murder of your unborn child,
that might be possible.
gol979 · 41-45, M
@guerrilla nope but i can read. Same as you. This injection can mess up your reproductive system
@gol979 So it’s your opinion. Nothing to be taken seriously.
gol979 · 41-45, M
@guerrilla not really, nope. Its up to you what you put in your body and if you want the chance to be sterile (amongst other amazing effects such as clots, heart attacks, shingles, vaids etc) be my guest
Yetti · 51-55, M
This is getting way ahead of themselves and I am not sure Americans would want to pay full price in a distant country for an abortion? Many cannot afford to do so even in the best of times. Out of country health insurance isn't likely to cover that without great expense added on, if indeed they do? Mexico if any, seems like a more economical choice in this situation?
Ynotisay · M
@Yetti Mexico is much more economical. It's called Medical Tourism and it's popular. But they have a similar situation in that their states can have their own laws regarding abortion. But they're going in the opposite direction of us. More states are legalizing. Last year it was decriminalized federally. Interesting to me that such a wildly Catholic country is moving towards legalization and women's rights. Particularly as we're moving backwards.
Ynotisay · M
They'll come to California. No way in hell that abortion won't be safe and legal here.
meJess · F
If they can get permission to travel
I agree women are not baby machines.
Educated people know how to have sex and not get pregnant. Plan parents co should have taken you and cut you up and use your organs to save babies that wanted to live
Human1000 · M
@lovebeingasissy They will outlaw abortion for rape too, idiot.
DeluxedEdition · 26-30, F
Nobody is going to Canada for abortions they just go to the state over or buy abortion pills off the black market

It’s not rocket science
Ceinwyn · 26-30, F
If it ever was. The USA is no more or less free than most other first world countries.
Human1000 · M
@Ceinwyn Less free.
