Why Has America Been So Anti-Communist?

Russia, China, Vietnam - it seems like so many foreign conflicts of the past have been to stop communism, but could it also have been to maintain foreign influence? What threat does communism pose to the US?

Realistically, the Cold War had almost nothing to do with the actual philosophy of Communism. If anything, it had to do with command econommy vs market economy, but even then, the US has continued to face off with both Russia and China after they transitioned from command economies to state capitalist. At heart, it's a geographical conflict for resources and power. Russia and the US want control over the Middle East so they can threaten to turn off the oil tap for one another. China and the US both want to control the South China Sea; China wants it to maintain economic security in case of a war & the US wants it to keep the rest of the world secure from Chinese meddling in trade. Russia wants control over eastern Europe so it can have a buffer between Moscow and NATO. NATO wants control over eastern Europe so it can sell shit to them and also use them as a buffer state.
