School Bans Backpacks

@BlueVeins Holy crap. If was a fire safety issue, then I'm surprised the high school didn't ban the STUDENTS...

@mikeylyksit The fear was that if everyone had their bags beside their desks, it would be too hard to navigate out of the classroom quickly and orderly. It wasn't wholely irrational, but it was very inconvenient. They were small classrooms.

@BlueVeins (facepalm) Me, imagining how a group of high school students could be slowed down even slightly by a few backpacks sitting on the floor. Maybe if everyone was 90 years old and using a walker to get around...
But high school students? In a true emergency, my money says that most of them would pick up the bag out of habit and run with it...
The few bags that got left behind probably wouldn't slow anybody down. Just my opinion, for what it's worth.

I'm not arguing with you by the way. I'm just saying I think your school had an inconvenient policy that *also* was not thought out very well.

@mikeylyksit Maybe so, but you're not supposed to take your stuff with you if a building is on fire anyway.

@mikeylyksit Also, the hallways are pretty narrow, so the extra crowding from backpacks would probably slow things down further.
