I think the school administrators need to be banned, next...

They'll might as well ban pants and shorts. They can hide guns there too. Fucking stupid idiots

my high school banned backpacks lmao, but it was for fire safety & overcrowding reasons

@BlueVeins (facepalm) Me, imagining how a group of high school students could be slowed down even slightly by a few backpacks sitting on the floor. Maybe if everyone was 90 years old and using a walker to get around...
But high school students? In a true emergency, my money says that most of them would pick up the bag out of habit and run with it...
The few bags that got left behind probably wouldn't slow anybody down. Just my opinion, for what it's worth.

I'm not arguing with you by the way. I'm just saying I think your school had an inconvenient policy that *also* was not thought out very well.
BlueVeins · 22-25
@mikeylyksit Maybe so, but you're not supposed to take your stuff with you if a building is on fire anyway.
BlueVeins · 22-25
@mikeylyksit Also, the hallways are pretty narrow, so the extra crowding from backpacks would probably slow things down further.

Guns need to be banned, obviously-. Unless you prefer to keep the gun harm.
When I told my parents a backpack was required in third grade they called me a liar, of course. When I told the teacher I didn't get help at home with homework and didn't have a backpack she called me a liar, of course.
I decided to become a liar and never do any homework again. I lied about why every day-. Until my dad found out and boy was I in trouble. Our family had to give up TV for a year. I was the reason for a whole year.
Stopmakingsense · 56-60, F
@mikeylyksit bull. History isn't really just about what certain people intended. History includes the experience of getting rid of guns and becoming safer that other countries such as Australia went through. Cash for guns would help our communities.

@Stopmakingsense That's a really strong opinion, motherhubbard. And I won't disagree with you. I will simply state that there are other opinions firmly footed in history that would win the day over your valid opinion.
mikeylyksit · 41-45, M
@Stopmakingsense Man, that sucks. I mean, that you lost TV for a whole year. YEs, what you did was bad. However, there was a good reason for your bad behavior. You weren't getting the support you needed either from your parents or your teacher. The way you handled it was wrong. But you shouldn't have been in that situation to begin with. So faulting you for dealing with it in an immature manner was wrong. You were a child, expressing frustration in a childish way. But you had reason to be frustrated, and that is the point that all the adults missed...

My son was caught cheating on an English assignment. Yes, I was disappointed and YES, we had a conversation that was not pleasant for either one of us. But I knew it wasn't like him, so I had to figure out why. Turns out, he just needed a little extra help keeping up with the other kids in English. I got him the help he needed. He excelled in school after that...

Or I could have taken away his computer for a year. But that wouldn't have solved the problem.

I remember when I was in 3rd grade in our district they made bags or back packs mandatory.

What had happened was a student had dropped some of his papers, they blew around, and he went chasing them under the bus and you know what happened next.
mikeylyksit · 41-45, M
@CestManan Doctors have long criticized schools for forcing students to carry many large, heavy textbooks home and back every night. Whether they are in backpacks or not. Sometimes kids are carrying more than half their body weight in BOOKS, due to homework assignments that each require one or two really heavy books. Get homework from 3 or 4 classes, and .....

So when a friend told me that a school was BANNING backpacks, my initial thought was...well, they'd better fricking ban HOMEWORK then, also. It's bad enough to be forced to carry all that weight. But take away the backpack? REALLY?!?!?!?!?
CestManan · 46-50, F
@mikeylyksit I mean I do not have the answer for the situation. I do not remember our books being real heavy when we were kids.

I do not think it is practical to ban bags. The very reason they made having them a rule was safety.
Before we were made to have bags, a lot of us just carried our stuff in hand, not a good way.

I might say that where I went to school, kids just did not bring guns to school.
mikeylyksit · 41-45, M
@CestManan Actually, back in the day...kids did bring guns to school. But it was a silly juvenile mistake, rather than an evil plot. And the biggest fear school kids had was facing dad when the teacher called to report that billy brought a gun to school...
