Should the United States have agreed to a ceasefire with Japan weeks after the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor in December 1941?

Think of the tens of thousands of innocent civilian lives that would have been saved at Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

It is a central principal of military strategy to disengage from the enemy to give them time to regroup for a counter attack.

@Bumbles Thanks for the BC!

No. Given the militarists activities in China, “The Rape of Nanking” would have paled in comparison to what they’d have done here.

Think of the tens of millions of civilians killed by imperial japan in Korea, China, Manchuria, Indochina.....
There was a long stretch of war between Pearl Harbor and the atomic bombs. It's a false equivalency.

Nice try, but the U.S. wasn't occupying and colonizing Japan in the lead-up to Pearl Harbor.
The answer depends on your politics. I'm a leftist, so I tend to be against wars and their continuance. Americans ain't no reds! And you don't talk politics very much, either. Y'all have the most military might.
Do not forget how our Government and Gen. MacArthur at the end of the war granted clemency to Dr.Ishii who was the Commandant of camp 731 in China.
Mengle didn’t have shot on this guy.

No because according to what I heard was that they were alot closer to our borders than most people realized.
