Did you know Japan surrendered in world war 2

On August 11th 1945? My grandfather said it didn't hit the papers till the 15th. Cause he heard it on the radio

No, because it did not happen.

General Carl Spaatz, said that the B-29s were not flying on August 11, and it was interpreted as a cease fire by the press, but it was actually due to bad weather. This kind of forced Truman's hand, and ordered a halt to all further bombings, to make sure the Emperor understood that he was giving him a chance.

However, the war did not stop, and there was a coup attempt, forcing the Emperor to go live on the radio, on August 15, and announce Japan's surrender.
