Mr. Netanyahu has been desperate all along that the outside world must not know what his IDF and the illegal settlers are doing in Palestine.

That we know as much as we do is largely thanks to major News organisations having discreet contacts they can trust within Gaza, including aid-workers; and sometimes even being able to interview Hamas officers, by 'phone.

Noticeably, although neither side likes awkward questions the Hamas spokespeople tend do their best to keep calm and polite when asked such questions, even as they do their best not to answer; but the Israeli government appoints spokespeople capable only of bullying and hectoring journalists.

As I read it, the civilised world had every sympathy for the Israelis after that Hamas atrocity at the music festival; but since then Netanyahu's government has shown itself no better, perhaps worse in some ways. And it now cannot comprehend why it has lost so much support and become so heavily criticised by most of the nations it previously considered friendly.
