Iran has been at war with the USA for 47 years. We tried negotiating, bribery, and ignoring them. Now we fight back. It's about time!

@bowman81 Actually, Obama solved the Iran war in 2015 with the JCPOA "Iran deal" where Iran agreed not to pursue nuclear weapons and to allow continuous monitoring of its compliance in exchange for relief from economic sanctions.
Then tRump blew up Obama's nuclear deal with Iran in 2018, saying he (tRump) could make a much better deal.
But tRump made no deal, and Iran restarted uranium enrichment. That's what led to the current mess.

Future time orientation: in the immediate future we expect economic sanctions on Iran will be dropped in exchange for keeping the Strait open. We expect Iran to continue selling oil into the world market at world rates. We expect the sanctions on Russian oil to somehow mysteriously never return.
Tough to win a chess game when you lost valuable pieces early on. However, along the way, someone was profiting on futures trades in the minutes before tRump's various announcements, so there's that.

@ElwoodBlues Horse manure. The JCPOA gave cover to Iran to pursue the technology, centrifuges, and infrastructure needed to make weapon grade uranium. It was a feel good PR stunt. The Iranians never stopped working on nuclear weapons. They were building the foundations to towards producing weapon grade material the whole time. The JCPOA gave them cover while the world wished that the problem went away.

@bowman81 Horse manure.
The monitoring plan under Obama was a rigorous technical inspection regime of Iran's facilities. Key parts of the inspection instrumentation were implemented and verified by Obama's Energy Secretary, an MIT nuclear physicist named Dr Ernest Moniz. Moniz's system could identify traces (secondary radioactivity) left by radioactive materials even after they had been moved.
It was Obama's inspection deal that halted Iran's uranium enrichment program in exchange for relaxed sanctions.
Moniz's technical inspection regime was a major part of what tRump blew up. Without the Obama deal, Iran immediately restarted their UF6 centrifuge uranium enrichment program.
It was the failure of tRump to "make a better deal" that forced tRump to drop bunker buster bombs on Iran's uranium enrichment program.
It was the failure of that bombing campaign that caused "no new wars" tRump to begin the current war on Iran.
JCPOA summary
Nuclear Restrictions: Iran agreed to reduce its enriched uranium stockpile by 98% and cap enrichment at 3.67% for 15 years.
Facility Modifications: The Arak heavy-water reactor was redesigned to prevent weapons-grade plutonium production, and the Fordow facility was repurposed, banning uranium enrichment there for 15 years.
Monitoring: The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) was granted continuous access to monitor mines, mills, and centrifuge production facilities for up to 25 years.
Sanctions Relief: The UN, EU, and US lifted nuclear-related economic sanctions on Iran, allowing oil sales and international financial transactions.
Duration: Key limitations on Iran's nuclear activities expire over 10 to 15 years, a feature known as "sunset clauses".

@AthrillatheHunt who is "him and his cronies"?
bowman81 · M
@ElwoodBlues It was a rigorous technical inspection regime that allowed Iran to build everything it needed to enrich uranium to weapons grade. They were free to stop the inspections at any time. During the inspection regime they built the infrastructure needed to weaponize the uranium. They were free to kick out the inspection team at any time. We had only their word that they wouldn't. The agreement gave them cover and the funding to build the equipment for making nuclear weapons. Precisely what they did.

And their only reactor capable of breeding plutonium was re-designed to prevent breeding.
The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) strictly limits Iran’s uranium enrichment capacity by restricting centrifuge numbers, types, and operational locations. Key limits include operating no more than 5,060 IR-1 centrifuges at Natanz, restricting R&D to specific models, and banning uranium enrichment at the Fordow facility, with these restrictions designed to last for 10-15 years.
After ten years when treaty terms being to expire? Further negotiations with threats of sanctions can extend any treaty.
Look at the numbers regarding centrifuges, stockpiles, and enrichment: the numbers were designed to put any possible weapon at least two years in the future from the point where Iran quit the treaty. AND. With tRump ending the JCPOA in 2018, it gave Iran a seven year head start on deeper tunnels, more centrifuges, and higher enrichment.
The only chess orange has played here is public relations chess. He has people believing in stolen elections, "vaccine AIDS," windmills that cause cancer, and stories about the JCPOA that just don't add up.
UPDATE
One other point about orange's chess playing. Let's expand our scope for a moment. Contrast the treatment orange gave North Korea to the treatment he gave Iran. The message to any other would-be dictators in the world is crystal clear: having a nuke is the most important thing in the universe. So much for over half a century of non-proliferation policies.
During the inspection regime they built the infrastructure needed to weaponize the uranium.
Enrichment capped at 3.67% for 15 years. Weapons grade is 90%. Uranium stockpiles cut by a factor of 50. If you only have a small stock at 3.67%, it's a long long way to 100kg at 90% enrichment. And their only reactor capable of breeding plutonium was re-designed to prevent breeding.
They were free to stop the inspections at any time.
And economic sanctions would "snapback" into place. The JCPOA snapback provisions (outlined in UN Security Council Resolution 2231) are a "veto-proof" mechanism allowing participants to automatically reimpose UN sanctions lifted under the 2015 deal if Iran violates its commitments. The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) strictly limits Iran’s uranium enrichment capacity by restricting centrifuge numbers, types, and operational locations. @bowman81 we were literally at no risk of any immediately impending war with Iran
now we are at risk of a recession, bankrupting the US, leaving the aging, tiny US AWACS jet fleet at risk of loss andn not being ready for an legitimate DEFENSIVE war with Russia, China, et al.

@SnickersDOM it was obvious we were. They had enough material to make dirty bombs if not all out nukes. Pull your head out.
SnickersDOM · M
@MasterLee then you wouldn't have supported Trump ending the inspections program, nor believed him saying they'll have bomb in two weeks, when only five minutes earlier he also told you he just obliterated their nuke program
