I finally been able to find out if he is dead or alive. I have thought about that day almost every week.

And talked about him plenty, here and everywhere. I didn't have a full name. Just his first name , location that day and his face. I remembered by face, eyes and voice.

It took years to actually find who he was. Years of asking the wrong and the right people for information and favors. More than a decade..

And I was right. He is gone. He died during service. The soldier who stood between me and his friends to hide me from them.

Today I was told he died a year after that event, in battle.

And he has one brother left alive.

I am going to try and meet him to tell him my story.

It is just mind-boggling to me that this kind of thing still happens in this century, it seems like the kind of regression we should've collectively moved beyond decades, if not centuries ago

Just to clarify, this soldier who saved you was technically on the Islamist side?
So when he finally died in battle, it was on the wrong side?
What would his brother most likely be like all this time later? Would he have been sympathetic to the Islamist cause back then, or was his family just reluctantly drawn into it, under duress?

He was not.

The war was complicated.

There wasn't just two sides. There were conflicts of interests even between the secularists themselves , and people took advantage of the chaos to use their power. And to revenge personal clashes and the sort.

His family aren't islamists. They thought they sent their son to fight for stability. But things were more complicated than evil VS good.
@Miram I'm glad he did at least one good thing, I hope it was representative of how many other good acts he also did, maybe he was even a role model who instilled similar in others he had the most direct influence on

I'm so sorry you were ever affected by such pointless chaos, and inherited personal clashes you never asked to be a part of, everything then should've been so much different, everything today should be so much different as well, you deserve a better world, everyone does, except those who ruin it
