Up until Trump, when Americans went into lands it was mainly an effort to free the people from a dictatorship. The US government generally gave control to the people of their own lands when a regime was overthrown. Under Trump he wants America to control some countries especially if they're rich on natural resources - and who is the president of America Trump himself which means he would control those lands too
