Is the F35 a waste of time and money?

Israel was going to use their F35s to take out the Iranian air defences so 2 waves of conventional aircraft could attack Iran proper. It turns out that Iran has anti stealth capabilities. Israel dumped its bombs 50 miles from the Iranian border when their F35s were locked onto by Iranian air defences. The second and third waves of conventional aircraft never left the tarmac in Israel.
