If under international law, according to this article, it is illegal for any country to not take boat migrants is it illegal to repel an invasion?

I have very limited sympathy for the majority of illegal migrants to Europe. The convention on refugees (which is presumably the international law being discussed) made perfect sense in the 1940s when drawn up but needs a serious overhaul today, and in the current situation returning migrants to their point of origin should really be the default position anyway.

But I think we should probably draw the line at ziptie-ing a man's hands behind his back and dropping him in the sea.
@Murmurs Say it with me. Refugee is a LEGAL immigration status.

And it is a bit rich for the UK to whine about refugees from countries they helped destroy.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Refugee is a legal immigration status. Sur.

It's also the case that laws can be changed if - however well-intentioned - they're no longer quite suitable to meet a new situation.
