i think that you are pointing out the hypocrisy of the concept of individual liberty as it is practiced in USA. on its face, individual liberty is only meaningful if it is the protection of unpopular speech, which is what waving the pride flag would be, in uneducated, ignorant parts of America.
in practice, that concept is never ever embraced by Americans, even though it has been established through legal precedent.
