Does it seem to you that, just sometimes, Tucker Carlson is an alarmist a-hole?

Last night, he went into great detail about the idiots in our military, (Ret. General Petraeus in particular), and how most of them are extremely stupid, yet all of Washington believes them to be geniuses.

His (Tucker's), reasoning was Petraeus' analysis of the actions we should take if Putin uses a nuclear bomb. Petraeus outlined how we would then destroy all Russian assets or posts, all Russian ships, etc., etc..

Tucker's derision stemmed from what he perceived as the SIZE of the hydrogen or nuclear bomb. He specifically stated that MODERN hydrogen or nuclear bombs are so huge that just ONE of them would be capable of wiping out the entire eastern seaboard in the United States from New York to Miami. He stated that Petraeus was an idiot because he believed that he or anyone else would be left alive to destroy Russian ships.

For the first time in my life, I felt real fear. My stomach was clenching.

But this morning, after doing some minor research, I am just angry with the alarmism.

Nuclear weapons come in all sizes. From suitcase bombs that can wipe out areas the size of 10 city blocks, to a tactical nuke designed to be used on the battlefield.

I am going to wash dishes, and chill my jets, while you folks discuss. Back later!

I just watched that clip on social media. I'm pretty sure the NY nuke that also destroys Miami is a huge exaggeration. However, his point that nuclear weapons today are exponentially more powerful than the nukes dropped on Japan in WWII is true. I also read some scare porn about a Russian nuclear sub with a weapon powerful enough to create a 1600 foot, radioactive tsunami. But you are right about what you read researching nukes. Smaller, and more of them, is the approach.

Despite what I believe were exaggerations, I thought this was a great segment by Tucker. The world is in an incredibly dangerous situation. Russia annexing eastern regions of Ukraine, with Ukraine attempting to fast track admission into NATO is putting the world in peril. If NATO membership is accepted, then NATO members will be in the war with Russia. NATO is Hell bent on removing Putin and pushing regime change. Now...let's think back to when the US and its NATO allies pushed for regime change in countries such as those in the Middle East. How did that work out? You really want to try that with Russia? What could possibly go wrong?

Now, if world depopulation is the objective, then this approach could easily accomplish that goal.
@4meAndyou thanks for the BC...though it's a downer.

For the record, I don't believe this will escalate to nuclear war.

@BizSuitStacy Well, that's a relief. I respect your opinion.
@4meAndyou Thank you. It's just a gut feeling more than anything else. The optics are scary for sure, but no one wants Mutually Assured Destruction.

You get ratings by being controversial and scaring the Bejesus out of folks. You see it with weathermen....inventing new horrible names for common long time weather events (Bomb-Cyclone anyone?). To opinion talk show hosts like Carlson. Its about ratings.

@bowman81 That's a shame, because he digs things out and up that our government would like to hide.

I don't know if one mega-bomb could do it, but one MIRV missile could come pretty close to doing that. One missile can carry 16 warheads, all with different targets, as much as a thousand miles apart. A review of the US population clusters suggests that a third of the US population could be gone within just a few minutes with just 3 or 4 of those missiles, and the rest of us to be taken care of by the radiation in the weeks that follow.

The US, Russia, China, UK, France all have those multiple warhead missiles, and how much of the global population could be killed in a nuclear exchange is beyond the imagination. Sadly, it's not.

That fear you felt is well grounded.

Yes, my analysis of Tucker Carlson suggests that he is one of those who will play the 'outrage' or 'alarm' cards by skewing things because it creates ratings.
I'm also confused about and concerned about his apparent pro-Russian stance on a range of issues. Russia is not a victim - they were not under threat, they started the war, they can stop any time they wish and lose nothing. If Ukraine stops they are no longer a country. Russia use media clips of Tucker Carlson on their own media to support their arguments for war on Ukraine.

@Abstraction Every once in a while I find he was inaccurate, or lying for dramatic effect, and I find I can't completely trust his stories because of that. And that's a shame because he has a good investigative sense. He is almost like a reporter/opinion host.
Are you kidding me? All the news these days except for AP and Reuters is alarmist. Tucker Carlson isn't even taken seriously by anyone with intelligence. Pretty much everyone knows that FOX News, CNN, and MSNBC are entertainment more than anything else.
4meAndyou · F
@OliviaOfTheNight Well, I fear you are correct, as regards most of the opinion hosts.
luv2fish · 70-79, M
@OliviaOfTheNight Typical liberal responses. No substance, just character attacks and calling everyone racist.

Miami may not be affected directly from a nuclear blast in NYC, but the tsunami could clearly affect everyone up and down the Atlantic coast. Bottomline, it's something to be aware of and not turning a def ear to everything.
I follow conservatives, but i dont watch fox. Listening to Howie Carr, and reading articles satisfies me with enough information on current events.

Yes theres different ones.
He always seemed like a drama lover.
But then again theres some that could take out either coast
