Eighty Years Ago Today Hundreds of Thousands Disappear in a Light Second

Eighty years ago the Enola Gay dropped a single bomb over the city of Hiroshima unleashing a force never before seen, chabged the world forever.

We speak about the nuclear bomb, but somehow lose sight of the fact that it was used to allegedly end a war. Now we have multiple wars at once, and there is fear of the use of a "tactical" weapon. We need to find a way to stop himans from kiling each other!

@samueltyler2 There were three possible solutions. None were acceptable,

Firstly, Japan surrendered early. It simply could not happen, Cultural reasons.

Secondly, the carnage that happened.

Thirdly, no bomb. The war continues for another two years. The slaughter of Japanese civilians, soldiers, American soldiers, British soldiers.
Another rhetorical question. Would Russia have taken more of Europe then?

@peterlee not sure what you think your point is, but please stop. We are memorializing an even that cost hundreds of thousands of human lives. This should never happen again. We need to find a way to avoid all wars.

@bijouxbroussard I gather that it had something to do with the USA stopping oil sales to Japan because of Japan waging war in China. Japan decided to just take the oil in the Dutch East Indies and needed the US navy out of the way. Big mistake.
Some cynical people suggest that FDR deliberately made it attractive for Japan to do that because he needed public support to enter WW2? Hitler conveniently declared war on the US a couple of days later.
