@RodionRomanovitch Fair point. The Yugoslav War intervention is the one example of war since ww2 that actually can be justified in humanitarian grounds.

I'm not sure Russia/Ukraine works as an analogy though.

@Burnley123 I'd imagine Putin to be totally ok with restoring a gulag system for those recalcitrants unwilling to go along with his land grabs.
@RodionRomanovitch [image deleted]for those who did not understand that one word

@RodionRomanovitch I'm not here to defend Putin. The Zelensky government and his own have plenty of authoritarian measures.

A negotiated partition of Ukraine is the best result for all. Whilst also, as much as can be done, agreeing not to persecute those caught on the wrong side of the fence.
RodionRomanovitch · 56-60, M
@Burnley123 I wouldn't argue with that.

@Burnley123 Why would we allow Putin to restore his beloved Berlin Wall?

Ukraine is a sovereign nation. Putin doesn’t get to make demands about Ukraine.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@newjaninev2 Its the Ukrainian people that I'm more concerned about, which is why I don't want war. Most of the Dombas region want to be part of the Russian area.
Berlin Wall
TBH, this is a silly analogy. The Berlin Wall ran through Germany and was never supported by the German people. The Germans incidentally (like the French) are in favour of a negotiated settlement.

@Burnley123 I wouldn’t say that most people in Donbas want to be part of Russia, even though there are more ethic Russians and Russian speakers there. Donbas is not Crimea.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@QuixoticSoul It's not. I've been reading up on this and the picture is mixed depending on who has conducted the polls. Donbas wants more autonomy and wants to be closer to Russia but probably a minority want to break fully from Ukraine. This further complicates things.

@newjaninev2 'Putin doesn’t get to make demands about Ukraine.'

The fact is though that he does. He just calls them 'security concerns' instead.
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@Burnley123 A settlement of what? This ‘issue’ was initiated by Russia, and orchestrated by Russia.
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@RodionRomanovitch Next the autocratic murderer Putin will be talking about liberating Russians living in Ukraine under the unbearable yoke of Ukrainian oppression, and his responsibility to save them
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@newjaninev2 That is highly arguable.
