So you would just let the Russian or China in case of India or any aggressor just have their way?

Well that reminds me of a song.

If we do nothing they'll just keep a coming!

If US history or recently Crimea wasn't example enough then perhaps this...

History will keep repeating until a better way comes around. Are you really willing to do nothing? That's history as well. Greece and the Romans!

@DeWayfarer and while the Western Democracies are sorting out the murderous autocratic dictator Putin, he needs to be told to get out of the Crimea.

Right now.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@newjaninev2 Agreed!
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@newjaninev2 Crimea is gone, and really they should have been allowed to leave in the 90s. Kruschev erred.

@QuixoticSoul Correction! Gorbachev!

@DeWayfarer Kruschev is the dumbass that decided to transfer Crimea to Ukraine for shits and giggles against USSR law. Was likely testing his power.

There was no need for it, Ukrainians never lived there in serious numbers, before or after.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@QuixoticSoul you said...
allowed to leave in the 90s.

Khrushchev's Fall From Power. Nikita Khrushchev [c=000000](1894-1971) [/c]led the Soviet Union during the height of the Cold War, serving as premier from 1958 to 1964.
Impossible!

Gorbachev was in the 90s.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@DeWayfarer Kruschev made the original fuckup - it should have been rectified in the 90s. Gorby wasn’t in a position to do it - though if his all-voluntary union was allowed to go through, Crimeans would have remained in the USSR - that was the reason they reestablished the republic via referendum prior to dissolution, it allowed them to leave Ukraine if Ukraine left the USSR.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@QuixoticSoul still it was Gorbachev that could have done something. But didn't. Khrushchev was long dead in the 90s.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@DeWayfarer Gorby tried to create the framework for various automous republics to remain, but he was never in a position to alter territorial lines willy nilly, things have changed since Kruschev was around. Yeltsin and Kuchma should have resolved it, but both had other things to worry about. A succession of Ukrainian administrations could have allowed for peaceful separation instead of squashing Crimeans’ attempts to do so, but there was little for them to gain by agreeing.

Still, Kruschev created this entire situation, which is why I primarily blame him.
