It was an authoritarian experiment to see how far the public could and would allow themselves be controlled. Citizens were brought to their knees and dependent on the government with stimulus checks and food stamps. Just what the government wanted to see. They discovered that 80% of the world are helpless sheep incapable of surviving without the aid and advice from big brother.
