because then the village idiot could have been Tolstoy. Was The Idiot inspired by Tolstoy, is there any evidence for that? Now those are real questions. One doesn't hear them often enough these days.

Is Prince Myshkin a good person or not? Is Myshkin's behaviour foolish? The intentions behind the specific behaviour like his aren't malign, but what about the effects of it afterwards?

Demonic myths of the One Leader and the One People in art and in societal rituals are indeed upon us again, but one can indeed argue that the "oppositeness" of Myshkin's behavior has not yet reached its limit.
