can you explain what does it mean?

Nothing happens to anyone that he is not fitted by nature to bear it[media=https://youtu.be/hwxDMT-KcMU]

This is a quote from Marcus Aurelius who is a renowned historical person. The character in Gladiator is based on the real person. They share many similarities, for example, they were both philosopher-emperors.

So the quote being in the movie is a really nice touch. Very apt.
It tells that whatever happen to anyone, it is because they will handle it well. Otherwise it won’t happen. Nature will consider our character, our strength and weakness, our features and our capacity to drive things happen.

As for why Maximus said this to Quintus is because Maximum wanted to tell Quintus that he betrayed Maximus and followed Commodus because that’s what he is. That’s what he can handle. It’s pathetic and sad, but it is what it is. Same things are what happen to Maximus and his family because Maximus cannot take the power when it was given to him, because his character didn’t allow him to do so.To summarise that,it means that there is nothing we can endure that we are not supposed to be able to endure. Everything we experience is because we evolved the ability to experience, and endure. In a way, nothing you go through has never been went through before. Nature has fitted you to bear it as your ancestors did.
@SW-User My prehistoric ancestors were eaten by bears and lions, but I don't believe I am jp to the task of being eaten alive, nor will I take the process with Stoic equanimity. Sometimes life is absurd and senseless in sense that we simply haven't evolved in a way to make sense of it since nobody tends to survive those situations to reproduce. You end up in a dead snd rut with every nerve fiber twitching in extreme pain trying to survive, but you are already dead, just your body hasn't quite figured it out yet.
