Ironically MLK Sr. was anti-Catholic. He only shifted his support to John F. Kennedy in the 1960 presidential election after JFK and his brother Robert F. Kennedy intervened to release Martin Luther King Jr. from a Georgia jail.

@bijouxbroussard Yes, and it's all related to Baptism prevalence among Southern blacks.

@Northwest Yes. MLK, Sr would occasionally speak at Ebeneezer Baptist where he had been pastor, and he even came to our school’s celebration of what would’ve been MLK Jr’s 50th birthday. I got to meet him and shake his hand.

@bijouxbroussard He was born Michael King. He changed his name to Martin Luther King Sr. in 1934 after a trip to Germany. A couple of years later he would not have been able to travel to Germany.

Great and heartwarming story. I NEVER thought I'd say this but I hope The Fighting Irish go undefeated in football this year!
