Right about now, on this date, Paratroopers were boarding C-47 s for the invasion of Normandy.

My great uncle spent four years flying above the Reich in the night in the freezing cold bombing Hitler’s folk. He is only one of 3 survivors of his crew.

Every night when he went to sleep in his old age, when he closed his eyes he could still see flak and smell cordite.

@jshm2 Russia also did not want allied forces to go through Italy.

My uncle flew 3 sorties on D Day in a B 24. On the last mission they crash landed back at Hethel in GB

Erm I'm directly related to all of this...
The town I grew up as a kid got leveled to the ground over 90% of it, everyone I knew had a personal story about ww2 including my grandpa & not just the war but all the atrocities from both sides that most Westerns have no ideas about, , the countries deep complicated history during all of this, matter of fact lot of people never even looked at ww2 as Americans fighting germans during ww2, it was understood it was. Soviet v the Nazi war, like I said, America couldn't give a shit about Nazis, the only reason they came in at the last minute was understood cause if they don't Stalin will go all through Europe or you grew up with too much propaganda to understand this?
Patriot96 · 56-60, C
@BluntSm0ker just keep believing that propaganda

I would think this would be a sad day for your ilk.

And the next day they had no idea if the invasion was a success. The troops storming the beaches had no idea if the paratroopers were successful.

And many had already been anchored at sea for hours.
Getting seasick. Cold. Unable to even relieve themselves because they were readied but had to wait for command to make the decision to go because the weather was against them.

All participants played their part.
