Betty Boop was stolen identity.

Rare sound recording is the first one, the second details the history of when a white woman stole a black child's music and erased her from Hollywood. She stole the child's unique voice, mannerisms, catch phrases and she got the idea from watching the child's music shows. In fact she was so effectively erased that it's hard to find original appearances or mentions of her. It was only until the white betty fake boop tried suing that it was found out she was the dumpster version of Betty Boop all along.

I actually suspect, with very little proof, that there was a whole lot darker story behind Ester Jones. Hence why little credit was given to her, nor another dark industry in the 1920s. Yes the 1920s. Why? Flappers and prohibition.

The flappers of the time had the very same style of Betty boop. Ester being black would open up a whole lot darker can of worms, being associated with flappers in that time period.

This as well alligns with some of my mother in-laws stories of being a flapper herself. Yes she was very old.

I think I read that somewhere. That is a real shame. I wish whoever currently owns Betty Boop could track down a living family member of that poor girl and do right by her.

@LordShadowfire I was hearing the original recording of her, it's not that clear but you can hear that she sounds just like Boop.

It really sucks that her future was stolen like that.
