Why are kings and queens idealized when in fact

It's probably the worst form of government as the people have no say in anything, stability is temporary at best, everything is owned by the ruling elites, justice is unlikely, and peaceful, competent succession is not assured.

What historical era or which countries are you describing?

None of your criticisms apply to the modern, European, democratic, constitutional monarchies.

They might apply to Saudi Arabia and other Arabic potentates, all vicious tyrannies; but even there the real power is murky, probably in the hands of elite religious fundamentalists behind the throne rather than the royal family itself.
