bijouxbroussard It doesn't make the Roman way better though does it ? Victorians also ran work houses and sent little boys up chiumneys and down coal mines in the UK. I guess we have to be grateful they did run workhouses. With the homeless in this country maybe workhouses is not a bad idea, and many getting prisoners to do work while in prison is not a bad idea either. You may think that is incredibly right wing but its come up as a thought to me now I’ve started teacher training and we’ve looked at the 4 possible goals of education based on the 2 x 2 matrix social value x individual development value. Ideally both are worthwhile but my conclusion is while we still live in a competitive capitalist society we really need both to compete with China and India because they are so big and will eventually and inevitably win and the USA because as the UK did before, it is using economic colonialism and protectionism to maintain its place as top dog. The latter of those has been shown never to work and led directly to the first and second world wars, the former leads to exploitation. The only way to change the world would be to rid it of capitalism and have a single socialist government. Cant you do that for me Bijou, it would suit me at my age - but I think I am getting so much out of teacher training I would still want to carry on with it (classical conditioning). God bless and thank you for being argumentative aggresive, righteous motivated, thought provoking, always interesting you. Martin xxx
